What is Integrative Medicine?
Integrative medicine describes an approach to medical care that is patient-centric and explores all the factors that influence the health and well-being of the individual. These include physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social and environmental influences that impact health. The practice is grounded in the World Health Organization’s definition of health, which is not simply the absence of infirmity and illness, but a state of complete mental, physical and social well-being.
Integrative medicine practitioners adopt a personalized approach that considers the unique conditions of each patient from all aspects of their lives to develop an individualized treatment plan. An array of scientific disciplines is considered by practitioners when identifying the most appropriate interventions to heal and to help maintain optimal health. The term ‘integrative medicine’ is used by some interchangeably with ‘alternative medicine’ but there are many key differences. You can learn more about this in the PDF attachment to this post.
Why Use Integrative Medicine?
Integrative medicine is increasingly being used by doctors, hospitals and clinics to supplement the conventional medical care received by patients. As the name implies, it is not an alternative to conventional medicine but instead a complementary treatment that can help alleviate symptoms and improve overall patient well-being. Practices such as music or massage therapy, meditation, dietary supplements, aromatherapy, animal-assisted therapy and acupuncture are not being used to cure illness, but instead applied alongside traditional treatment methods to improve quality of life and relieve symptoms. Patients with conditions including fibromyalgia, cancer, chronic fatigue and persistent pain may find that integrating one or more of these therapies into their treatment plan can significantly reduce pain, tiredness and anxiety.
About Dr. Carolyn Dean
Dr. Carolyn Dean graduated in 1978 from the Dalhousie Medical School and is licensed to practice medicine in California. Dr. Dean has also graduated from what was then known as the Ontario College of Naturopathic Medicine. She serves on the board of the Nutritional Magnesium Association, which is a non-profit organization.
After a long history of researching and writing about the health benefits of magnesium, Dr. Dean created her own magnesium supplement, ReMag. This supplement is unlike other widely available magnesium supplements in that it is absorbed 100% at cellular level. Most medically-recommended magnesium supplements on the market only have a magnesium oxide absorption rate of 4%.
This led to the creation of the entire RnA ReSet range of supplementary formulas for optimum health. In the short video attachment, you can learn more about Dr. Carolyn Dean’s book, The Magnesium Miracle.
